Christchurch Art Gallery management structure under review

Four high level options for a new management structure at the Christchurch Art Gallery were presented to staff today.

The review of the Gallery's organisational structure follows the release to staff last month of the peer review which identified the need to increase visitors to one of the city's most admired buildings. Wellington consultant Ken Gorbey, one of the two consultants who carried out the peer review, also reviewed the organisational structure.

Christchurch City Council General Manager Community Services Stephen McArthur says the structural review was needed to allow the paradigm shift to be achieved. "We do not consider that this is possible under the current structure," Mr McArthur says.

"I am confident that what we are proposing will foster a positive environment at the Gallery in which team work and creativity will flourish."

Mr McArthur says the changes proposed will help the Gallery achieve the desired outcomes. More transparent and inclusive processes will be introduced.

Staff will provide feedback on the options in the next month. After considering this feedback Mr McArthur will release a change proposal for staff consultation in February which will identify a detailed structure and any impact on staff positions.
