Screams Of Jubilation As Hutt Couple Win $100,000
A Hutt Valley couple will be starting Christmas celebrations a week early after winning $100,000 on an Instant Kiwi Double Crossword, says NZ Lotteries Chief Executive Trevor Hall.
The winner, who wished to remain anonymous, scratched the ticket and saw it had won the top prize of $100,000 on the $5 game.
"I tried to ring my partner and couldn't get hold of him. I told the kids and we all stood together and just screamed and screamed."
The winner says the couple have not yet decided what they will do with the $100,000 windfall.
"It's likely that we will invest it in the future of our children."
The winning ticket was sold by Silverstream Pharmacy in Upper Hutt.
Silverstream Pharmacy Lotto manager Amy Sammut says it's great the prize has gone to a local couple.
"We wish them all the best, what a start to the holiday season!"
Instant Kiwi games were introduced to New Zealand in September 1989. On average around seven major Instant Kiwi prizes are won each week.
