Call answered to show us more short films

Call answered to show us more short films.

Finally we get to see all those kick-ass shorts that get made here every year!

Australia and the rest of the world have a tonne of short film festivals, but until now we were missing out. So, welcome to the first annual SHOW ME SHORTS Film Festival. This spectacular event will tantalise your eyeballs the whole weekend of November 24-26 2006. Please diarise!

SHOW ME SHORTS is the brain child of budding entrepreneurs and self confessed festival addicts Katrin Hagen, Gina Dellabarca, Tamara Liebman, and Kate Nicholson. You can ogle our sizzling website at www.showmeshorts.co.nz

Film makers from here and Australia are now being invited to submit short films between three and thirty minutes long, completed after December 31st 2002.

Festival Programming Director Katrin Hagen says, “We are expecting a large crop of entries, both from here and Australia, which should make for a diverse and high quality selection. We will choose around 50 to play over the course of three nights and two days, with winners being announced on closing night for Best Film, Best Student Film, Best Technical Contribution and a Special Jury Prize. It’s all the more exciting as we get to pit the best Kiwi films against the Aussies and find out how they compare.”

”People want to see some of the great films that our emerging talents are making. Short films are fun, and there’s a real art to telling a story on screen in a short time frame. When a Kiwi film was nominated for an Academy Award we knew it was high time people had the opportunity to see the best films on offer here and across the Tasman.”

SHOW ME SHORTS will screen from 24-26 November 2006 at the Academy Cinemas. The opening night will showcase world and/or New Zealand premieres, followed by eight more sessions over two days, each with its own category, i.e. comedy, drama, animation. For those who prefer variety, there'll be two 'mixed bag' sessions featuring a collection of genres. The festival will finish with a spectacular closing night including the finalist films and the announcement of the winner.

Announcements of the selection panel and judges will be made next month.

Thanks to sponsors DVDesign, Alliott Thompson Francis Ltd Chartered Accountants and the Academy Cinemas for coming on board at this early stage, and to our new partner and sister festival in Melbourne, the St Kilda Film Festival, which has agreed to play the winning film from our festival in its event next year.
