KU Ride Again
KU Ride Again
Kusha Deep Music release the KU’s new EP ‘Zeros + Hero’s’ to follow up the successful ‘Heads Up’
Its all out rock n roll soul on this next release
which features three tracks from the album they are
currently recording. ‘The Pressure’ a big Mod sounding
classic, pounding pianos drums, bass and lyrics filled with
a got to escape from the survival routine message, that
makes it an anthem for all nine to fivers.
Along the same
theme is ‘Something 4 The Weekend’, some great arrangements
moving from Latin Rock to Reggae Dub in one easy move, a
track that never wants to come down, mmm remind you of
anyone?
For those that are unfamiliar with the band KU, let me bring you up to speed.
KU are a very soulful rock band currently signed to Kusha Deep Records. They come from South East Of England and made up of 4 members, Darragh Jye (Vocals,Piano,Guitar) Tim Clapham, (Drums) brothers Dominic (Guitar) and Mat Croxford (Bass Guitar) The sound is a mixture of genres from bluesy soul to dub rock underpinned with some classic song-writing. The music that has influenced the sound comes from the British rock of the Small Faces, The Who to the American super soul of Mowtown and Stax.
Darragh was signed to Cool Tempo back the 90’s with a garage dance outfit called Taste Of Paradise who scored a hit with a dance-floor classic Reach Out, since then he has written, remixed and produced for BMG, Polydor and Festival Records in Australia where he lived and worked for five years. He also runs Kusha Deep Records, and hosts a radio show for a Canadian based station called IE radio.
Tim Clapham has a veteran status in the band having started out in the North East Of England mixing with the likes of Chas Chandler from the Animals and touring with the legendary Thin Lizzy. and Spencer Davies His drumming comes out of the John Bonham handbook for hero’s and keeps the KU sound tight as a drum.
Dominic and Mat have a maturity beyond there years where most 20 something’s are trying to be one trick pony Indie rockers, these brothers can play anything, bringing an amazing depth of musicality to the bands sound, while not being afraid to test the boundaries. The most unusual thing for brothers in bands is that they get on so well with each other, so far there’s been no bloodshed, which makes rehearsals a relatively safe place to be.
The band have been working on a album ‘Last Night In Babylon” recording the first cuts in the Kusha Deep studio through Feb to May, which as live recordings go sound excellent and give a taster of what’s to come.
The last
EP out at the titled ‘Heads Up’, went into the top 40
independent charts in Australia, featured and play-listed on
US radio stations such as 107 FM in LA, WCH radio in St
Louis and M3 radio in New York,
And has also been picking
up support in the UK through BBC Yorkshire, BBC Southern
Counties, Juice FM Brighton, Pulse Fm, Spider Bait in
Manchester, and various other ILRs around the country.
The boys are currently rehearsing a show to take out on the road, the warm up gigs have gone down brilliantly with audiences which is a good sign for the future of the KU.
