Lloyd Geering Takes To The Air
Disturbing the peace of the church, doctrinal error, a Companion of the British Empire and Principal Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit are amongst the honours and brick bats describing Professor Lloyd Geering.
Famous for his works "The Resurrection of Jesus" and, "The Immortality of the Soul," he was in Nelson in May to speak at a Spirited Conversation to the subject, 'Why We Live in a New Religious Age."
'The Professor's address was recorded by Fresh FM and while we record these events regularly for broadcast it was a great honour to capture this conversation in particular,' said Jo Ann Firestone Programme Director
'Lloyd Gearing drew a standing room only crowd as this was a rare opportunity to hear one of New Zealand's cutting edge religious thinkers and philosophers,' said Ms Firestone. The Spirited Conversations are a series of talks given by visiting experts in their fields at the Yaza Café, on the last Wednesday of the month, in Nelson.
'The Lloyd Geering Fresh Feature adds to an already impressive collection of recordings made at conferences and events in this region. The broadcast of these shows exposes the ideas presented by the speakers to a wider audience than first possible,” said John Bullock Fresh FM Station Manager.
'The radio medium uniquely captures the special live energy which is a feature of these occasions and also, I believe proves the value of a well-resourced local public radio organisation to record such programmes,” said Mr Bullock.
The Lloyd Geering Spirited Conversation will be broadcast on Fresh FM Sunday 28 May at 4.10pm and repeated Monday night 29 May at 6.10pm. It will also be available as an ipod/download from noon Monday 29 May at www.freshfm.net
