Kerre runs with salmon
As if radio personality and columnist Kerre Woodham doesn’t have enough on her media plate, she is now going to tackle the adidas Auckland Marathon.
And, thanks to Kerre’s sponsor Regal Marlborough Salmon, her favourite charity - the Cystic Fibrosis Association - will be the beneficiary.
The popular Newstalk ZB radio host, Herald on Sunday columnist and mother has already kicked off a rigorous five-month training programme to ensure she’s ready for the October event.
“I’m not sure I’ve ever walked 26 miles and 385 yards (42kms) before, let alone run it,” says Kerre, “so I’m investing in some serious expertise to get me right in time.”
Regular sessions with her personal trainer have already taught Kerre that training for a marathon can be just as stressful as actually taking part in the event. So that’s why she has decided to add a weekly intake of salmon to her stamina-building diet.
“My diet expert tells me that recovering nutritionally from a training session is the most important thing you can do to get ready for your next session, and for the race itself,” she says.
“Salmon is packed with protein which, I’m told, helps my muscles recover and gives me the good fats I need. Who knew fats could be good! Best of all, it’s easy to prepare, adds interest to sometimes stodgy carbohydrate-based meals, and I love the taste.”
Kerre’s backer, Regal Marlborough Salmon, is also a major sponsor of the adidas Auckland Marathon.
“We’re delighted Kerre has taken up the challenge and that she is carrying Regal Marlborough Salmon into the event,” says marketing manager Stephen Gibson.
“I’m sure she’ll be a running illustration of the benefits of a sensible diet that includes salmon.”
- In return for Kerre’s support, Regal Marlborough Salmon is making a donation on her behalf to the Cystic Fibrosis Association. Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited disorder that affects about one in 3,000 children born in New Zealand.
