All Black captain’s great grand-daughter wins Mapei Snowvision McKenzie national ski scholarship

Nine year old Eliza Grigg, a great grand-daughter of 1928 All Blacks captain Maurice Brownlee, has won a national ski scholarship after the first series of Mapei races at Mt Hutt at the weekend.

Grigg received the scholarship after winning her age group race at the Mapei national age group series event.

The other McKenzie scholarship winner was Jake McConnell, eight, of Methven. The scholarships will pay their regional ski training fees.

Seventy-one children competed in the races at Mt Hutt.

The Snowvision Foundation in conjunction with ABN AMRO Craigs and Mapei has revived the McKenzie ski scholarships to help young New Zealand skiers.

The original scholarships were born from the funds raised by Sir Roy McKenzie, who in 1952 was part of New Zealand’s first NZ winter Olympic team.
