Kiwi Actress Stars in Film Breaking Ground at the 31st Toronto International Film Festival

AFI winner Paul Goldman's new highly anticipated movie SUBURBAN MAYHEM, has been selected to participate in the edgy new VANGUARD program at the 31st Toronto International Film Festival.

This year, the Toronto International Film Festival launches its fearless new program VANGUARD, hitting audiences with a raw, pulsating aesthetic that speaks to sexual, cultural, and cinematic freedoms. VANGUARD showcases films that are stylistically bold, structurally playful, and appeal to adventurous, risk-taking audiences.

Director Paul Goldman comments "It is a great honour and wonderfully exciting for SUBURBAN MAYHEM to be officially invited to the Toronto International Film Festival this year. Toronto has been a great showcase and launch site for Australian films over recent years, so it is a privilege to be there, in the company of so many special films, part of such a brilliant program. SUBURBAN MAYHEM stars New Zealand's award winning actress Emily Barclay (In My Father's Den) and Michael Dorman (from the award winning television series The Secret Life Of Us). Other cast include Anthony Hayes (The Boys), Genevieve Lemon (The Piano), Steve Bastoni, Robert Morgan, Laurence Breuls, and newcomer, Mia Wasikoska.

Leading film critic David Stratton described Emily Barclay's performance as "magnificent", while FilmInk magazine described the film as "Chopper with a healthy dose of wicked sex appeal thrown in for good measure."

SUBURBAN MAYHEM is directed by Paul Goldman (The Night We Called it a Day), written by Alice Bell, produced by Leah Churchill-Brown and executive produced by Oscar nominated producer Jan Chapman (The Piano, Lantana).

Icon Film Distribution, in association with Hoyts Distribution NZ, will release SUBURBAN MAYHEM in New Zealand cinemas in 2007.
