Evening

The ninth annual Radio Active 89FM Handle the Jandal DIY music awards were held tonight, with Wellington fashionista Sally Tran scooping the field to win the Golden Jandal for the favourite music video.
Sally Tran won the award for Charlie Ash’s O’Baby, also picking up the award for Best Concept earlier. The Favourite Music Video was voted by a nationwide txt-vote and the audience at Wellington’s Embassy Theatre.

Radio Active station manager Dave Gibbons, who helped initiate the event nine years ago, said Handle the Jandal was now recognised as a major event on the independent scene.
“Handle the Jandal is the biggest night in the country for up’n’coming and indie filmmakers. Next year is our tenth anniversary. Tonight was great, everyone had a great time, and next year will be even bigger and better,” he said.
The fifteen finalists can be viewed online on www.c4tv.co.nz, www.obscure.co.nz and www.nzshortfilms.com. Screen shots and event photos are available.
