Flower Show transplant to transform Wanganui home

A $40,000 garden complete with masonry walls, plants, furniture, and outdoor fire will be despatched to Wanganui after the Ellerslie International Flower Show.

The garden has been won by Tricia Wells, a client of Visique Wanganui Eyecare, in a competition run by the flower show's lead sponsor, Visique Optometrists. On viewing the garden for the first time at the flower show on Tuesday, Mrs Wells was excited to find that it would be a fitting transformation for her backyard.

The garden, which won a bronze medal at the flower show, was created by leading Christchurch landscape designer Ben McMaster. The design involves clever use of planting and masonry walls to create distinct areas for private relaxation, entertainment, quiet contemplation and visual stimulation. Ben McMaster says the concept is for a "living space outside the home".

Mrs Wells' entry was drawn from thousands received at Visique practices throughout the country, according to Visique general manager Michelle Lawson. "In our first year as sponsor of the flower show, the competition has been a great way to engage our staff and our clients. "
