3 News Announces New Sports Preseneter

Hamish McKay, 3’s Rugby Editor is to take up the position of Sports Presenter on 3 News.

McKay joined TV3 in 1996, and since then has been an integral part of the sports reporting and presenting line-up. He will continue in his role as Rugby Editor, and will also be part of the core broadcast team for 3’s 2007 IRB Rugby World Cup coverage.

Mark Jennings, 3’s Director of News and Current Affairs, says McKay’s broadcasting experience and outstanding sports knowledge will provide viewers with a top-rate weekday sports round-up as part of 3 News, alongside Mike McRoberts, Hilary Barry and Toni Marsh.

"We are lucky to have someone of Hamish's calibre to step into this job. His work as our Rugby Editor has been outstanding, and has given him huge credibility with an audience that demands high standards. We know that sports fans want presenters who have strong reporting backgrounds. Hamish not only brings his expert knowledge but a warm and easy style to the presenting role. While doing both jobs will be demanding, I have no doubt he is capable of scoring the tries and kicking the goals!"

McKay, who will take up the sports presenting position in late January 2007, says he’s looking forward to the challenge of a daily broadcast.

"We've got an excellent Sport team at 3 News and I feel very privileged to front the quality work that is produced every day. I'm also delighted that I'll be staying heavily involved in the rugby side of things going into the IRB 2007 Rugby World Cup."
