An amusing, heart warming series of 15 candid monologues for kiwi men.

Sex and manhood are the stuff of Geraldine Brophy’s The Viagra Monologues. A ninety-minute collection of intimate reflections from the male perspective.

Paul Barrett, Eddie Campbell and Paul McLaughlin portray an impressive variety of characters from a biologically confused boy of three, to an eighty-three year old pondering male sexuality. However this is a show about much more than penises; after all, they have to bare something much harder: The male emotional landscape.

Funny, touching and sometimes sobering in its connections between male sexuality and the violence men do to themselves; The Viagra Monologues celebrates men rather than belabour the perception that abuse is the only definition of their sexuality.

“Thousands of kiwi males grew up in a time of particularly unforthcoming fathers, in the 50’s and early 60’s. Father’s who were often brutalised by World Wars and the suffocations of the Victorian and Edwardian eras before that. The ideals of strengths and silence were perpetuated upon us all . . . children should be seen and not heard . . . boys don’t cry . . . toughen up . . . harden up . . . don’t be a sissy – halting any ability to talk intelligently about things that affect, hurt or bother us”. –Peter Elliot
