NZ Confirmed To Host Netball World Champs
New Zealand confirmed as host for 2007 World Netball Championships
The International Federation of Netball Associations (IFNA) confirmed today Netball New Zealand (NNZ) as the new host of the World Netball Championships to be held in November 2007.
Netball New Zealand Board Chair Don Mackinnon said the World Netball Championships was the pinnacle event of the World Netball calendar and we feel privileged to be hosting it in New Zealand.
“The November date will allow our organisation the opportunity to work through the logistics, funding and infrastructure requirements, to ensure we deliver a showcase of Netball to the world,” Mackinnon said.
As for the location of the Championships, Mackinnon confirmed that either Auckland or Christchurch would be the host city.
“In the very compressed timeframe available, we’ve reviewed all our options and concluded that these two cities have the stadia, infrastructure and logistical capability we need to showcase Netball to the world.”
NNZ has invited venues in these cities to put forward formal applications.
A final decision around the host venue and details of ticketing and accommodation packages will be made by NNZ in February, once the hosting agreement with IFNA is finalised.
