The Peregrine Classic
Dave Dobbyn, Deborah Wai Kapohe And The Christchurch Symphony
Saturday 3 February
2007
Peregrine Winery, Queenstown
Monday 15 January
A refreshing mix of soaring classical music and Kiwi tenderness, washed down with a cool glass of Chardonnay - that’s what audience members can expect from The Peregrine Classic located at the beautiful Peregrine Winery on Saturday 3 February, this Waitangi weekend.
Dave Dobbyn and Deborah Wai Kapohe accompanied by the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra will present a diverse and memorable programme live at this perfect venue. Under the direction of acclaimed conductor Marc Taddei this extravaganza of opera, symphony and contemporary classics will resound around the award-winning winery in its beautiful landscape.
Peregrine Classic organiser and Fabel Music Director Karyn South says she is delighted to bring this mixture of New Zealand culture to the region.
“When you are in the business of creating events, we know it doesn’t get much better than this. It is fantastic to be pairing a symphony orchestra, a world-class opera singer and one of New Zealand’s most iconic songwriters on this amazing vineyard. We truly think this will be one of the best production experiences of our career.”
Recognised as the
most promising soprano from New Zealand (Dominion Post 2002)
Deborah Wai Kapohe is well known to the Otago/Southland
District having completed her Masters with Distinction in
Music at Otago University last year. She is particularly
excited about performing in Queenstown for this event.
“I always love to come back to New Zealand, especially
Southland and I’m particularly fond of Queenstown. I love
the location and it’s exciting for me as it will be the
first time I perform publicly as I have only sung at private
events in Queenstown in the past.”
In popular demand
all over the country, for conductor Marc Taddei the
opportunity to work with Dave Dobyn and Deborah Wai Kapohe
is a dream come true. “For me to realise that dream in
such a perfect environment on one of my favourite vineyards,
surrounded by great architecture and a fantastic valley,
it’s going to be amazing,” he says. “And I’m
particularly looking forward to having a glass of the
Peregrine Pinot Noir.”
Greg Hay of Peregrine Winery
couldn’t agree more about the appropriateness of the
location. “This vineyard provides the perfect setting for
this unique event, with its relaxed environment, stunning
architecture and scenery to die for, what better way could
there be to spend the day with the family?”
The full range of multi-award-winning Peregrine wines (Pinot Noir, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay) will be available throughout the event along with a bevy of locally brewed ales and a range of delicious food from local businesses.
Tickets for the event are on sale now and are available online or Ticketek, all Play It Again stores, or directly from the vineyard. Ticket prices range from $10 for children to $69 for adults.
Gates open for the show at 2pm, with the stars taking the stage after 4pm on Saturday 3rd February 2006.
