Shore Sounds: 25 FREE concerts to go
Shore Sounds ’07 Update…
Week 1 down, 25 FREE concerts to go for Shore Sounds ’07!
Unfortunately due to bad weather the launch of Shore Sounds ‘07 was cancelled on Saturday 13th at Takapuna Beach Reserve. Huge anticipation for the first of the 26 free concerts featuring Don McGlashan and Anika Moa was not enough to hold off Auckland’s erratic weather at this time of year. The good news is the event has been rescheduled for Saturday 27th January (Auckland Anniversary Weekend), 1- 4pm @ Takapuna Beach Reserve with both headliners Anika Moa and Don McGlashan confirmed to perform again! The Blue Devils with Simen ‘Blue Keys’ Taylor (the amazing blues pianist) are also rebooked as support. Hooray!
Sunday saw the first of the Solo Sundays concerts being held at Windsor Reserve, Devonport 2-4pm featuring Julia Grace (Tui Award Winner - Best Gospel Artist) and Pete Fountain (currently receiving lots of airplay for his single ‘Heavy Tonight’) and that went ahead with great weather – in fact sunblock was needed all round. Fantastic performances by both artists set the scene for a laid back afternoon for the 3-400+ crowd, an excellent turnout to support solo New Zealand artists. ‘Solo Sundays’ will be held most Sundays of the Shore Sounds ’07 Season (concert info available from www.shoresounds.co.nz).

SHORE SOUNDS 2007 MEDIA RELEASE
In the Summer
Time with Shore Sounds 07
Free Concerts all summer
….
The wait is over summer lovers… Shore Sounds 07, North Shore City’s outdoor concert series held in parks, beaches and reserves from January to March is here – and this year there are over 25 concerts! With music genres to cater for all tastes and age groups, styles range from jazz to rock, funk to hip hop and from blues to classical and feature everything from fresh new local talent to established NZ artists and many kiwi icons – and it’s all FREE!
“Every year we ‘raise the bar’ and ask ourselves what else can be done to develop the series and with attendances reaching 3500 people at some events we know we are hitting the right note with the public,” says Paul Dunphy, Event, City Promotions and Tourism Manager, North Shore City Council. “This year sees the addition of Solo Sundays to the program where solo singer songwriters and musicians will perform weekly and the further development of the Shores very own ‘Day Out’, Shore Sounds Rockfest, an event celebrating and profiling young north shore bands.”
The official launch of Shore Sounds 2007 takes place on 13th January 2007 at Takapuna Beach Reserve, from 1pm to 6pm. The launch concert featuring rock royalty’s Don McGlashan and Anika Moa is set to start the series with a triumphant fanfare to accompany the panoramic views of Rangitoto from Takapuna Beach Reserve, The Strand. Local artists will accompany two time APRA Silver Scroll winner and Tui Music Award 2006 nominee McGlashan, originally from Milford and acoustic treasure Anika Moa to rock the shore all afternoon.
“Shore Sounds is about free music for everyone and these concerts create the opportunity to get together with friends and family in our great outdoors at no cost,” says Ayliss Ripley from Ripple Productions, producers of the series. “It also gives exposure to up-and-coming musicians from the Shore who get to play along-side their idols, particularly at events like March’s Shore Sounds RockFest at Onewa Domain where top New Zealand acts like The Bleeders, Steriogram and 48 May are set to perform.“
