Top 20 Herbs for Kiwi Gardens Announced

MEDIA RELEASE

NZ Gardener's Top 20 Herbs for Kiwi Gardens Announced

Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme - all have a place in NZ Gardener's list of the top 20 easy-care summer herbs for Kiwi gardens.

From flavoursome favourites like mint and fennel, to exotic herbs like the natural sweetener stevia, the February issue of NZ Gardener includes hints on how to grow, harvest and use a range of homegrown herbs.

"Even if your garden is tiny you can still find room for a window-box planted with basil and chives or a pot of rosemary by the barbecue," says editor Lynda Hallinan.

Lynda's 'Good Life' inner-city self-sufficiency experiment continues with this month's column focusing on her top crops - zucchini, potatoes and tomatoes - and flop crops - garlic, radishes and cucumbers.

NZ Gardener's North Island Garden of the Month is a stunning formal Tauranga garden, while ceramic artist Katie Gold's romantic Nelson garden is named the South Island Garden of the Month.

NZ Gardener also meets a 97-year-old Canterbury poppy grower who is living proof that gardening keeps you young, visits a Blenheim couple with a tantalising fig farm, and food editor Alessandra Zecchini has delicious ideas to make the most of the summer tomato harvest.

The February issue is on sale from Monday 22 January and retails for $6.80.
