Sealord Night with the Stars – Line-up Announced

Sealord Night with the Stars – Full Line-up Announced

Sealord Night with the Stars, Saxton Field, Nelson, Saturday 17 February. 7.30pm

Kiwi music icon Howard Morrison joins a top line up of opera stars at Nelson¹s major outdoor summer music event this year.

Sealord Night with the Stars continues in the tradition of Pavarotti concerts that mix opera arias with performances by popular music greats. The concert features the dazzling mezzo Helen Medlyn singing for the first time in New Zealand with her sister - noted soprano on the Australasian opera scene, Margaret Medlyn, with tenor Patrick Power completing the line up.

Musical Director Peter Rainey says the singers selected each year always open up interesting programme opportunities.

³Margaret Medlyn brings recent international experience and when she and Helen sing the exquisite Flower Duet from Madame Butterfly it will be very special - the first time these two talented sisters have professionally performed since both their careers have taken off in such an impressive way,² Rainey said. ³The Medlyns will mainly perform individually and for Margaret we have selected some big arias including In Questa Reggia from Turandot and Vissi d¹arte from Tosca, both by Puccini.

Rainey says tenor Patrick Power is one of New Zealand¹s most popular singers and will thrill the crowd with the famous aria Nessun Dorma. On the lighter side of the programme, Rainey notes it is the first time Sir Howard has played with full orchestral backing to a big outdoor crowd in Nelson.
