MIDNIGHT ASSEMBLY recently launched its new worldwide website including a fashion range to raise money for youth. The Midnight Assembly is a charitable trust based in Aotearoa, New Zealand, that is committed to cultivating an inspired youth culture. The organisation was created and is totally operated by youth. It's focus is to create culture by organising events in the arts, music, film, fashion, leadership development, business-incubation, sustainability, internet, media, education, and by encouraging self expression.
The release of their new materials is the beginning of their long term plan to fund raise for a nationwide youth-café concept, a futuristic virtual network, a series of art exhibitions on social harmony starting with a Northland Prisoner's Art Exhibition, and an annual charity concert to popularise a stimulating community based youth atmosphere.
2007 will be a big, adventurous year for the community of young people who founded the organisation and administer its goals. Formed in Whangarei out of an unprogressive youth culture, the alternative approach seems very appealing to a lot of teenagers from both apathetic and energetic backgrounds.
“I've often put it this way: Teenagers are on the streets doing some stupid stuff, pretty much because they feel they have nothing better to do. They're under stimulated and society treats them like there's something implicitly evil about their culture, but all it's doing is stamping on a plant that hasn't been watered. We are giving youth something better to do.” - Alex Matthews, Chairman
The community believes the message of a creative, insightful youth community can only be achieved by pro-actively building the networks, services, and providing the resources required to facilitate it. The MA creates its culture by becoming the change in the world it wishes to see.
The Midnight Assembly Charitable Trust has a very broad range of goals and an unlimited amount of potential. It needs enthusiastic support, grants, donations, sponsorships, contributing artists, professionals in the IT and multimedia sectors, and word of mouth in order to take it to the next critical phase. The youth of Aotearoa are keen on something clever and innovative like this - and eagerly await your input.
