Seeing Red at Tauranga Writers
Seeing Red at Tauranga Writers
Ruby red, that is.
Tauranga Writers are celebrating. With 40 years of continual operation under their belt, not only would they qualify for the Longest-Running Writers Group in New Zealand Award, they can lay claim to a long list of published writers: Sheryl Jordon, Sue Emms, Leonard Lambert, Jean Bennett, Bronwyn Elsmore, Phyllis Johnston, Tommy Wilson, Jenny Argante, all these and more are highly regarded past or present members of Tauranga Writers.
Today’s membership plans to celebrate in style. Along with a short-story competition, a Gala Anniversary Dinner, Masterclasses in Creative Writing, a film premiere and Imprints: the 1st New Zealand Small Press & Self-Publishing Bookfair, a jubilee anthology is planned to honour the writers and writing from these forty years.
Tauranga Writers will soon be accepting submissions from any current or ex financial member of the group. To be launched at the Gala Anniversary Dinner, the anthology will be compiled and edited by respected author and Tauranga Writers’ Chair Sue Emms.
‘This is a fantastic opportunity,’ says editor Sue Emms. ‘We’ll be putting together a selection of the best writing from the Bay from over the last 40 years. While we expect the book to be full of a variety of writing and, as a result, an enjoyable read, it’s also a kind of historical record, and that makes it an important part of the Bay’s literature.’
Previous anthologies of writing by Tauranga Writers include No Drums, No Trumpets and Freelance 1 & 2
Seeing Red: Celebrating 40 Years of Tauranga Writers expects to stand proudly alongside them.
