Mike Nielson Session in Review

Mike Nielson Session in Review

On Wednesday the 31st of January MMF members had the privilege of attending an evening with visiting Producer, Mix/Recording Engineer, Writer and Programmer, Mike Nielsen. Drawing on his vast experience working with artists such as Jamiroquai, David Gray, Snow Patrol and B.B King, Mike discussed his views on the role of a producer, technological issues facing the music industry, current market trends in the UK and the challenges facing NZ bands traveling abroad. Those in attendance can attest to the unassuming manner in which Mike generously answered questions and shared his knowledge. To the delight of those attending Mike also expressed a genuine interest in working on NZ based projects, and true to his word, he recently began work on a project with one of our MMF members.
MMF On-line Session with Teresa Patterson

The MMF recently held its second on-line discussion via the MMF's members forum. The session was hosted by our very own Teresa Patterson and was a general discussion about issues and challengers facing managers in New Zealand. Drawing on more than 15 years of experience working in record companies and managing some of NZ's top artists Teresa offered invaluable advice on how to pitch to promoters, touring bands overseas and managing artists based abroad. For those of you who missed the session it is now available for review in the Members section of the MMF website.

Standby for an announcement about our next online discussion scheduled for mid March
Upcoming MMF Events

During the month of March the MMF will be hosting its first 'Back to Basics' seminars. The back to basic seminars will focus on fundamental areas of artist management and will be particularly useful to new managers and to those more experienced managers who would like to refine their skills.

The first Series of Back to Basic seminars will be held throughout the country in each of the MMF's affiliated regions and will be hosted by the MMF regional coordinators.
The first session will cover:
1. How to write a bio and press releases
2. Photography - What sort of photos you need? In what format? Tips for finding the right photographer
3. Media training - how to handle interviews and answer those difficult questions - press, radio and tv
Local radio, press and media experts will be in attendance to offer advice and answer your questions.
