Mark your diaries now for the OKI 24 Hour Race

* The OKI 24 Hour Race is set to take place at Lake Pupuke on 17-18 March 2007 – starting at 2pm on 17 March 2007.

* The race is run by the Murrays Bay Sailing Club and is principally sponsored by OKI.

* 40 crews enter the race, with two competitors per boat with the exception of Masters and Womens that may have three.

* Competitors run down the banks of the lake in a Le Mans style start and jump into their lasers to take part in the 24 hour endurance event.

* Team members can only sail for a maximum of three hours at any one time and must spend a minimum of one hour ashore during each stop. Crew members embark and disembark from a pontoon on the Lake.

* The boat that completes the most number of laps in the 24 hour period wins the event.

* The event is split up into the following competitor groups: Open Class (anyone can compete); Youth under 19 years; Womens and; Masters (over 35 years). All competitors from each class can be in the running to win the overall OKI 24 Hour Race trophy.

* The event has been running since the 1960s.

* Funds raised for the event are used by the Murrays Bay Sailing Club for youth coaching.

* The event also features a ‘24 Hour Legends’ boat that is crewed by past winners and famous sailors, as well as young P class and Starling sailors.
