New Zealand audiences will be enchanted by a most extraordinary expression of traditional Chinese performance art that has been lost for centuries. Set to come alive on New Zealand stages this April in Christchurch and Auckland – rich story lines, authentic historical costumes and never seen before set designs – bring to the stage the New Zealand premiere of New Tang Dynasty Television's (NTDTV) Divine Performing Arts Group. This overseas production distinguishes itself from Mainland State-owned Chinese shows highlighting sacred ancient values of virtue reminiscent of the pre-cultural revolution era.
Virtuoso soloists in the erhu (Chinese Violin) the pipa (type of lute) and the zither will perform alongside world renowned classical Chinese singers, dancers, drummers and performers. Exclusive costume and set designers have been advised by researchers and readers in Chinese history, archaeology, and art to ensure authenticity.
The New York-based NTDTV Divine Performing Arts Group has experienced full houses on the current 2007 global tour from New York to Paris, Berlin to Australia, with the show travelling to Taiwan, Japan and Korea after New Zealand.
The performance is presented to New Zealand audiences by NTDTV, an independent global television network. It is their fourth Chinese New Year performance event of traditional Chinese culture. The shows have produced thundering success season after season – ranked 7th bestselling show in the US by Billboard magazine in February 2006. Reports from sell-out seasons in the US and Europe suggest 2007 is by far the best.
