XXX KG Haggis Biggest Ever
Leckie’s Butchery claims the
record with a haggis weighing a whopping 98.25 kilograms
The haggis was enjoyed earlier today by festival goers at ‘Port Fest - M'Eat Drink and Be Merry’ – a festival to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the first frozen meat shipment to leave New Zealand for the United Kingdom.
Renowned for their fine haggis making abilities, Leckie’s Butchery successfully made the haggis 100 times the average size, which is large enough to feed several thousand people! .
“To create a natural haggis of such magnitude we had to use an Ox stomach, instead of the usual sheep’s one. It took us a while, but we managed to find one big enough to do the job,” says butchery manager Grant Millar.
The haggis took 12 hours to create - from the
time it was made to the time it is presented at Port Fest.
“We were delighted to be involved in these landmark anniversary celebrations and it was great to see so many people have a try of the dish. ”
“I’d like to see someone try and top our achievement. We’d welcome the challenge.”
