‘Nothing Special’ most popular Short
The New Zealand short film ‘Nothing Special’ directed by Helena Brooks was voted the most popular film at the Openair Short Film Festival at the Auckland Festival AK07. The film, which was nominated for a Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival in 2005 fetched more than 22% of the votes.
The line-up under the theme ‘Cowboys and Clowns’ offered some exciting contributions from Australia, Switzerland, the UK and New Zealand. It included Don McGlashans classic ‘Lounge Bar’ from 1988 as well as Te Arepa Kahis highly political and actual ‘The Speaker’ or the Cannes-award winner ‘Lemming Aid’ by Grant Lahood. The Swiss contribution ‘Washing Day’ is a dark satire in black and white from young director Stefan Brunner. Australian Phillip Donnellons contribution ‘Cheap Seats’ has just been shown at the Paris Film Festival with great success.
Hundreds of festival-goers enjoyed the free outdoor event at the Britomart, which was offered by Openair Cinema and Westpac.
