M2 Magazine Celebrates Second Birthday

M2 Magazine Celebrates Second Birthday

Two years ago in the ever-changing platform of magazines, a new innovative men’s magazine was launched. Giving the New Zealand man a voice, M2 Magazine burst onto the shelves.

They said it would not work! They said that men don’t read magazines!

M2 Magazine is a men's lifestyle, monthly magazine that celebrates the New Zealand man’s sophistication and complexity and the fact that he actually does read. It entertains and informs on the latest toys, super yachts, planes & buildings, health & fitness, beautiful women and conversations with interesting people...

It is the men’s magazine you don’t have to hide under your mattress.

Two years on, M2 is celebrating its second Birthday (issue on sale 23 April).

“Two years ago when we started we were getting told that New Zealand men would never read a magazine without T&A, we were getting told that New Zealand men would never pick up a magazine with men on the cover but year on year, we’ve doubled our sales. We have become a voice for the emerging New Zealand male and we’ve created trends that other magazines from large publishing houses are adopting.”

“Not bad for a small, upstart magazine,” comments Andre Rowell, Editor.

In a recent survey conducted by M2 and Saatchi & Saatchi the definition of the emerging New Zealand man has become a little clearer.

“He will go to the cricket to have a few Tuis with his mates and hang out in the terraces, then scrub up to go to Cirque du Soleil with his wife that night and have a Heineken at the bar,” comments Publisher Tim Lawrence.

“In the new millennium, thanks to innovations such as the internet, mobile phones and cheaper airfares, the New Zealand Man is much more outward looking. While money is important, so are lifestyle, family health and fashion.”

Readers were asked to have their say in the recent M2 Reader Awards, and have their say they did! Voting Mark Ellis as Best New Zealand Man, Toni Marsh (3 Weather) as Best New Zealand Woman and the Porsche 911 as their favourite car, just to name a few. (Full list available in February issue or by logging onto www.m2magazine.co.nz).

The magazine was also thrilled to win Best Magazine Cover at the 33rd Qantas Media Awards just one year in. The new magazine found itself up against heavy competition from Media giants such as ACP and Fairfax. M2 Magazine is published by a New Zealand owned and operated company.

M2 Publisher Tim Lawrence said at the time:

“To us this indicates that we are achieving exactly what we wanted for the title - a men’s magazine that utilized the best in leading edge design.”

The judges of the Qantas Media Awards described the covers of M2 as “speaking directly to their target of audience of 25-49 year old men who appreciate class and style.”

To celebrate, M2’s second birthday edition will see Denny Crane (William Shatner) from Boston Legal grace the cover, will look at Boston as a tourist destination and continue to showcase the best in cars, boy’s toys and everything the New Zealand man needs to know about!
