Society celebrates first anniversary, goes online

New Zealand Aficionados Society celebrates first anniversary, goes online.
The New Zealand Aficionados society has celebrated its first year with a fantastic base membership growth.
Following the demise of cigar bars in New Zealand, due to anti smoking legislation, many people where left without a place to enjoy a fine cigar and a delicious spirit in a peaceful relaxing environment, with interesting company. The society aims to change that by promoting the enjoyment of “the finer things in life”.
“We are not just about Cigar smoking”, comments Phil Prior, the Society Chairman. “Our non-smoking comrades were also denied a monthly social event or just a place to learn about noble products such as cigars and fine spirits.”
Now, one year down the track the society enjoys the strong growth of its membership base and has recently celebrated its first year in a private party hosted by the members of our executive committee for the first-year founding members.
In adding another dimension to the Society’s presence we also announce the launch of our website www.aficionados.co.nz. The development of the website will play a significant role in the growth of the Society and will work to serve all our aficionados better. It will also deliver our members a number of benefits including online booking of events, joining or renewing the membership, information on affiliated sites, membership privileges and links to information on cigars, fine spirits and our past and future events.
We have been receiving enquires with respect to our social responsibility policy. Roy Willcox, the Society Secretary, comments. “We’re not an organization which defends or promotes smoking as such. We stand for the right of people to enjoy fine things, be it a glass of fine whisky, a fine cigar or an outstanding art event. Our goal is to promote a lifestyle which is deserved and appreciated by a lot of people in our society”.
