Luke Thompson Opening for James Morrison

For Immediate Release Wednesday 2 May 2007

Luke Thompson Opening for James Morrison

Kiwi singer/songwriter Luke Thompson has been invited to support British soul singer James Morrison at his one and only New Zealand show at the St James Theatre, Auckland, Tuesday 15 May.

James previously visited New Zealand on a promo tour in October last year. Aside from interviews and stripped-back renditions of hits including 'You Give Me Something' and 'Wonderful World', James was also called upon to present the Best Male and Best Female Tuis at the NZ Music Awards. (Co-incidentally James went on to win British Male Solo Artist at the Brit Awards 2007). It was at the NZ Music Awards after-party that Luke first met James.

"He seemed like a real laid-back guy," says Luke of James, "friendly and unpretentious. I really like his album [Undiscovered] and I thought 'It'd be great to work with him one day'."

Indeed that day has arrived, thanks, in no small part, to the success of Luke's second single and music video 'Perfect Drive'. The single has spent five weeks in the New Zealand Top 40 Singles Chart and is one of the most played Kiwi songs on radio at the moment. Together with a North Island acoustic tour and a NZ on Air radio tour, the 'Perfect Drive' single and music video have received extensive radio and television exposure nationwide - the perfect follow-up to Luke's first single 'Morning Light' and the perfect precursor to his debut album which is set to be released late 2007.
