RIDING TO A TOWN NEAR YOU

Shanks' Pony is unusual, distinctive and compelling. It
feels like it offers a glimpse deep into the songwriter's
soul, with all the messiness that entails. Pryor gives the
impression of a profound creative restlessness, combing
elements of folk, pop, ska, country, prog rock and jazz into
his own idiosyncratic hybrid.
> "This is an album with
legs"

>
> Spend some time with trailblazing
singer/songwriter Age Pryor & band when they hit the highway
to showcase his acclaimed album with legs Shanks Pony.
>
>
> Following a mighty evening of
finger-picking folk and fiery electric guitar freakouts at
Wellington's Mighty Mighty bar to celebrate the album
release, Age and band are packing bags to perform live at
selected venues nationwide.
>
> The Wellington born
raconteur, jazz school graduate and co-founder of the
Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra is being joined
on tour by Justin Firefly Clarke on guitar and Peter Hill on
bass. Drummer Darren Mathiassen will perform with the band
at selected shows.
>
> Age describes all the players
as phenomenal musicians, Justin is an off the hook guitarist
and the rhythm section is a killa! I'm really excited about
exposing the live sound to the rest of the country - it will
be a bit of an eye opener.
>
> Shanks Pony is a
triumphant follow up to Ages 2003 debut album City Chorus,
and the hugely popular Fly My Pretties project of which he
was considered one of the standout performers.
>
>
Two of Ages Fly My Pretties tunes, King of You All and
Shouldn't I Know feature on Shanks Pony. Another tune of
note is I Don't Want, the original version of which makes an
appearance in Eagle Vs Shark, the debut feature film by
Taika Waititi.
>
> The Wellington based duo are
long time creative associates and in return for Ages tune
on his movie, Taika created the original artwork that graces
Shanks Pony.
>
> Age says the upcoming tour will
focus on the music from Shanks Pony album, with the bonus
of the live element adding a different dynamic to the
contemporary folk journey.
>
> All the musicians
are improvisers and we have a certain amount of freedom on
where we can take the tunes Age promises.
>
>
Shanks Pony is available in all good record and online
music stores now, and over the horizon look out for the
release of the jewell-case version of City Chorus.
>
>
> In the end, Shanks Pony leaves us in no
doubt that we are in the 21st century where sonically
everything is up for grabs, while the questions posed by
this singer-songwriter remain the eternal ones.
