Jam Out West kicks off Youth Week ’07
in Waitakere
West Auckland sees the return of the concert series Jam Out West specifically for the 13-18years old age group on 18th May 7-10pm at The Trusts Stadium, Henderson. Following a successful trial in 2006 which attracted 600+ attendance, four concerts are scheduled for 2007 between May-September, the events providing something to do on a Friday evening for Waitakere’s youth whilst profiling up and coming local talent alongside artists from other Auckland regions. May’s event kicks of Youth Week ’07 out West.
“Activities for youth are always an issue especially through the winter months,” says Richard Attwood, Events Co-ordinator, Waitakere City Council. “Each year it is part of my role to deliver a number of events where Waitakere’s youth can get together and socialize in a fun and safe environment – music is a great way to connect in a healthy active way and the great location and facilities at Trusts Stadium really support this program.”
Apart from the bands scheduled to play on the 18th May which include local Massey High School band Scooters to Mexico, The Early Birds, The Midnight Youth and These Four Walls, interactivity is one of the elements incorporated at the music events and there will be a GoWest MusicWorks Jam Station on site. “A major focus for Youth Week ‘07 is participation and a PA set up with instruments so that anyone can get up and jam with their mates, literally ‘Jam Out’, is a great way to experience music – additional activities will also be incorporated as the series progresses,” says Graham Sanders from EntertainmentWorks, co-producers of the series.
“With New Zealand Music Month fully underway it’s also a great time to launch a new music initiative supporting NZ’s homegrown talent with the very real benefit of creating a great night out for youth.” The aim is that Jam Out West will form part of a larger Auckland wide series throughout 2007/8 incorporating Jam Out’s in South Auckland, North Shore and the Eastern Suburbs and bands will be able to experience new audiences in other regions.
