International prize-winning sculptor Peter Brierley-Millman has been awarded the ‘People’s Choice’ at the Lake House Art Centre’s symposium in Takapuna, Auckland.
The work is one of a series and has been purchased for the famous Becroft collection.
The series, entitled the ‘hyperdimensional’ series, is based on current research into particle physics, subatomic physics and superstring theory.
Other works in the collection have been
selected for exhibition in Berlin, Germany, being held later
this year.
Artist Peter says he seeks his inspiration from the rich and diverse New Zealand landscape.
"As New Zealanders, we enjoy some of the finest natural environments in the world," he says.
"My sculpture series directly relates to the sacred relationship between us as Kiwis and our lands and seas."
Peter says taking his sculptures out to the rest of the world is an honour and makes him proud to say he is a New Zealander.
Other works in the series have been purchased by the Decin Town Council collection in the Czech Republic.
Peter Brierley-Millman became famous for creating the highest value New Zealand artwork by any artist. His works, the "Giantwins’, were commissioned by a private Texan collector and were sold for more than one million New Zealand dollars.
Recent sales include to Kiwi expat, London-based entrepreneur, Claudia Wyse, with a work sculptured from Totara, entitled "Whales tail".
One of the artist’s most significant current works on view in New Zealand is located at the Treasury Building, The Terrace, Wellington, at an exhibition opened by Prime Minister Helen Clark in 2006.
He is most known for the long-time exhibition held in AMP’s 151 Queen Street building.
**Peter Brierley-Millman is available for
interview before Tuesday, 29 May before he heads back to
Europe for the summer
season.
