Charles Upham Forum Reveals the Man and the Stories
As part of the 2007 Puke Ariki Reading Festival, two fascinating forums about the life of Charles Upham VC and bar will be held on Wednesday 6 June at 6.30pm and repeated on Thursday morning at 10.30am.
Charles Upham is New Zealand’s most highly decorated soldier, winning two Victoria Crosses during the Second World War. His legendary exploits and gallantry belied the humble and shy man he was in person.
Guests featuring on the panel include Amanda Upham, twin daughter of Charles Upham, Craig Aitken, producer and screenplay writer of the upcoming film based on the life of Upham, Mark of the Lion, Dean Mclachlan, co-writer of the film’s screenplay, and award-winning children’s author Janice Marriott whose book The Soldier in the Yellow Socks was a finalist in the 2007 New Zealand Post Book Awards.
The forums will be held in the Learning Centre, off the main foyer in the North Wing of Puke Ariki. As places are limited, telephone 7596060 to reserve a seat.
