Sweet art and more

Sweet art and more

What do lolly scrambles, melting train tracks, extinct birds, sticky black tarmac, 6000 post-it notes, and 440 metres of yellow rope have in common?  Climb the stairs to the top floor of The Learning Connexion School of Art and Creativity’s Island Bay campus and experience what Stage 3 students have been up to in preparation for their graduate exhibition.

While you’re there, check out the End of Term Exhibition, in the same building.   The two exhibitions run from 21 to 24 June 2007 and showcase the work of artists and emerging artists from Wellington and across New Zealand.

Exhibition Stage 3

This show marks student completion of The Learning Connexion’s Stage 3 programme, which is the final year of the school’s advanced diploma qualification. Extramural students will come together with those situated on-site to display their work in a purpose built exhibition facility.

Stage 3 is an art course that aims to slow down the process of art making, encouraging students to take fresh approaches to their chosen mediums, and how they engage with contemporary art practice.

For the past year students have been dabbing, quoiling, rubbing, sprinkling, spraying, hitting and missing, pestering conductors and peering in skip-bins, salvaging scrap metal and haunting museums. Their Graduate show will comprise work in 2D, 3D and video.

End of Term Student Art Exhibition

This show has an incredible variety of work and comprises over 400 pieces of art.  The works have been created by the school’s Foundation, Stage 1, Stage 2, and Stage 3 students.  Many contributors are from Wellington, but others are extramural students from around New Zealand.  The work of these emerging artists over the term includes paintings, photography, prints, jewellery, sculpture, bronze casting and more.
