Just $25 for Under 25s!

The NBR New Zealand Opera’s NZI Winter Season of Lucia di Lammermoor opens in Wellington on Saturday 23 June, and anyone aged under 25 can attend for just $25!

From 9:00am on the day of the show, under 25 year olds who present their ID in person at the Westpac St James Theatre box office, are eligible for the $25 ticket price, subject to ticket availability. Under 25 tickets cannot be reserved or put on hold, and only one ticket per ID can be purchased. Any ID that shows proof of age is accepted.

The NBR New Zealand Opera’s NZI Winter Season of Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor is a bold new telling of one of the most exhilarating Italian operas of the 19th century, full of passionate characters, dramatic scenes and magnificent music.

Elvira Fatykhova, the sensational star who won over critics and audiences in The NBR New Zealand Opera’s 2005 La Traviata returns to play Lucia, one of the most significant roles in the soprano repertoire. Creating this vibrant new production are two highly talented women with award-winning careers behind them: Australian director Lindy Hume and New Zealand set and costume designer Kate Hawley – together they are creating a fresh and original production that, while retaining the integrity of the period, is devoid of clichés and has an aesthetic that a contemporary audience will identify with.

The story of Lucia is one which echoes down through the ages… an absorbing tale of love and betrayal, desire and deception. In a brutal world, Lucia has fallen in love with Edgardo, whose family, the Ravenswoods, are the bitter enemies of her own. When her brother learns of the secret love affair, powerful forces begin to tighten on Lucia. The lovers are tricked and Lucia must agree to an arranged marriage with another man. Her dream shattered, Lucia is driven to a desperate act...

This new production is a must for anyone who loves opera in all its theatrical glory.
