Greenpeace Photo Event: Protest Through Pictures
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
years of protest through pictures.

The power of photography to sway international opinion is well known and well understood by the environmental group Greenpeace.

For decades the organisation has relied on photography as an important and convenient tool in its many campaigns. Now, as part of the Auckland Festival of Photography, Greenpeace will reveal more about the role and significance of photography in Greenpeace protests.
This weekend Greenpeace has been invited to present a free talk in the Triangle TV Talking Culture series at Auckland City Art Gallery. The talk will feature images from the organisation’s vast archive.
The collection includes dramatic anti-war protests over Auckland Harbour; activists clambering over a power station and the widely published photo of a would-be Ronald McDonald protester.
Around the world, Greenpeace photos regularly capture front page headlines and feature in international exhibitions.
Photography enthusiasts and others can hear more about the role of protest photography at the Auckland city Art Gallery on Saturday (June 16) at 10.30am.
Attending the talk will be local Greenpeace leader Bunny McDiarmid who was an original crewmember on board the Rainbow Warrior.
