UK artist performs spooky tales from her cult comic The Masterpiece
Rising British art star Olivia Plender is one of the big names in Auckland Art Gallery's new international show Mystic Truths, opening next Friday.
Performance: The 30-year-old will perform spooky tales from her cult comic book The Masterpiece, based on alternative spiritual moments from 19th century Britain.
The half hour performance Strange Adventures involves a slide show, music and sound effects and is akin to a magic lantern show or early cinema. * Friday 6 July, 6pm. Free. Gallery auditorium. Entry through clocktower. Seats are limited. Doors open 5.30pm
Talk: Enjoy a drink at the gallery's Art Lounge on 3 July and listen to Plender chat to broadcaster Noelle McCarthy. The talk is part of the Art Chat series, held on the first Tuesday of every month from 6pm to 8.30pm.
Installation: Plender's reconstructed spiritualist church The Medium and Daybreak (above) will be installed at the New Gallery.
Residency: She is the artist in residence at Auckland University's Elam School of Fine Arts for the next three weeks, starting today.
