Trust Grant Helps Wellington Youth be Warriors.

A team of 20 boys have received the opportunity to be coached by the Warriors coaching staff, thanks to a grant from the Winton and Margaret Bear Charitable Trust.

The North City Vikings Rugby League Club, which this team of under 15s plays for, has a policy of not charging their members any fees. While this allows the players to excel in the sport of their choice without putting financial pressure on their families, it does make it difficult for the club managers. Particularly for the manager of this team who, weekly, will take home the muddy shorts and socks that have been used, wash them, dry them, and have them ready again for the next game.

The grant the team received went towards providing each of the 20 boys with the right gear and the opportunity to attend a skills weekend coaching course in Auckland, under the guidance of the Auckland Warriors coaching staff.

The boys are undertaking fundraising activities themselves such as sausage sizzles and raffles, but could not have done this without the generous contribution of the Winton and Margaret Bear Charitable Trust.

“It’s wonderful to see the amazing legacy left by people like Margaret and Winton Bear help the youth of today achieve their dreams” says Rt Hon Jim Bolger, Chairman of Trustees Executors, the company that looks after the Trust.

“Most of the boys in the team have come up through lower grades and have achieved many championship wins and individual honours. The chance to attend this workshop has a lot to do with enhancing the mana among the team” says Bernie Wood, Chairman of the North City Vikings Rugby League and Sports Club.

The Winton and Margaret Bear Charitable Trust was established by a couple who were devoted to helping young people in their own lifetime. Now, through a Charitable Trust they established before they passed away, they continue to help generations of New Zealanders achieve their dreams.

With Charitable Trusts being exempt from tax, more New Zealanders are now using these as a way to support worthy causes during their own lifetime.
