Romance, Stories and Dance on the Edge

With Wellington’s Dance Your Socks Off! Festival fast approaching, BATS Theatre has a novel way of narrowing down the many, many choices. With so much going on, BATS has simplified the decision making process.

As per usual, BATS will be selling season passes that allow people to see three BATS shows for just $30. This year, however, the Dance Your Socks Off! shows have been grouped in to packages, that way people can choose from “The ‘It’s Dance Jim, But Not As We Know It’ Package”, “The Date Package”, “The Tell Me a Story Package”, or simply mix and match their own.

The “it’s dance Jim, but not as we know it” Package

Traditional dance not your thing? Satisfy your deviant dance urges with:

- Footballistic – a stage combat epic set during a football riot.

- Tap That – Wellington will quake in their tap boots to eclectic music ranging from rocking to raunchy and everywhere in between.

- A Hip Hop Legacy – Legacy Dance Crew, finalists at the World Hip Hop Dance Championships in Los Angeles 2006, carve up BATS

The Tell Me A Story Package

Like a bit of a story with your boogie? Sit back and let us take you on a journey.

- An Alternative Version of Your Own Life - a haunting piece of dance theatre inspired by the everyday confusions of life. Choreographed by Virginia Kennard and Lorna Borrett.

- Itchy Feet – A household tale of familiarity, fidelity and fantasy. By the Java Dance Company

- First Flight – young contemporary dancers showcase their own work.

The Date Package

“Hi, I have this season pass for these great dance shows – wanna come with me?” Then pull the sneaky yawn-arm-over-the-shoulder-trick – booyah!

- Tap That – Sure to provide a lot to talk about after the show over a nice red wine in The Pit Bar as you stare longingly in to each other’s eyes…

- First Flight – Has several fabulous pieces of dance, so you can assess your date’s compatibility based on which piece they like best!

- Itchy Feet – a show about the romance of the ordinary, one to cuddle up to your sweetie pie over the arm rest.

There is only one show that has not been included in any of the packages. The Real Hot Bitches Dance Troupe’s Around the World In 80s Outfits sold out months before their opening night on the 1st of September.
