Over 1100 entries in
running for Photography Awards
More than 1100 entries have been received for the prestigious Epson/NZIPP Iris Professional Photography Awards 2007 to be judged in Auckland from tomorrow.
The winners of the awards, which cover eight different categories ( Landscape, Commercial, People, Editorial/Illustrative, Wedding, Wedding Album, Student and Creative) will be announced at a gala dinner at the Heritage Hotel, 35 Hobson St on Monday August 27.
Jason Boa, NZIPP President, said that he was thrilled with the number of entries, which had come in from all over New Zealand as well as Australia.
“This event has grown to become a celebration of creative photography. It brings all the major players in our industry together and shows it is in good heart. We’re especially pleased to have a large delegation of Australian photographers attending.”
The awards are part of the five-day INFOCUS 2007 event, which also includes a conference and trade show.
All entries are judged in an open forum across three intense days by panels of well-known professional photographers from New Zealand and Australia.
In addition to a cash prize of $1000 and a specially designed crystal trophy, each category award winner will be eligible for the Photographer of the Year title. In 2006, Queenstown photographer Mike Langford was judged New Zealand’s best.
All award winning images will be displayed in an online gallery from August 2, and an exhibition of the highest scoring photographs will also tour New Zealand from November 2007 to August 2008.
