2008 Script Read-through Applications Close Soon
2008 Script Read-through Series Applications Close Friday 28th September
Script to Screen runs read-throughs of scripts as one of its contributions to New Zealand screenwriting. The read-throughs include actors and a dramaturge (workshop director). This series is made possible by the financial assistance of the NZ Film Commission. We are now inviting applications for the 2008 read-throughs.
Selection Criteria
Scripts must fulfill the following criteria to be eligible for submission:
1. The project must be in development with an established producer (i.e. under contract), or in development with the New Zealand Film Commission or similar body.
2. The project must be written by a New Zealand based writer (i.e. a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident).
3. The project must be in advanced development. Script Read-Through Workshops are designed for scripts that have already had substantial work. The writer will have taken the project as far as they can and new input is required to move it forward.
4. The project must have evidence of substantial funding either from the New Zealand Film Commission, or from a private source.
5. The successful project must be able to commit to a mutually agreed upon date for the Workshop between January and May 2008.
Dramaturge
The dramaturge will be selected in liaison with Script to Screen. It is hoped that experienced writers and developers (with feature film credits) who are capable of aiding the development process will be utilized as dramaturges for these workshops. It is integral that the dramaturge selected is someone who has not had previous involvement with the project, as this series is specifically aimed at projects seeking a fresh perspective.
Fees
If your script is chosen, we will cover the fees for actors and dramaturge. Morning / afternoon tea and lunch will be provided. Participants based outside Auckland and Wellington will have to meet their own travel and accommodation expenses.
Attendees
Each project team is able to nominate a limited number or individuals that they would like to attend the workshop in addition to the actors and dramaturge. If your script is in advanced development with the New Zealand Film Commission, NZFC Development staff will be invited to attend the script-reading portion of the workshop.
How to Apply for a Script Read-Through
After reviewing the Selection Criteria to ensure your project is eligible:
1. Complete and sign the Application Form and sign the Terms and Conditions Agreement.
2. Provide four hard, unbound copies of the script (electronic files will not be accepted).
3. Provide four hard copies of a one-page script synopsis (electronic files will not be accepted).
4. If your project is in
development with the NZ Film Commission, provide details of
the development history and the
present stage of the
project. If your project has development funding from
another body or a private investor, please provide a letter
from that body detailing the development and funding
history, and an acknowledgement that the project is in
advanced development.
5. Post your scripts and all application paperwork by Friday, 28th of September, 2007 to:
