The Full Dollar
Curtis is back in da club. With two 50 Cent bets he scores the first double of 2007 and sets a high bar for Kanye West next week.
On the Singles Chart Ayo Technology moves seven places to claim the #1 spot while its host album Curtis enters the Albums Chart at #1 in its first week of release (a feat it repeats in Oz) and sends Welsh tenor Paul Potts' One Chance to #3 (its lowest chart place to date).

The New Singles
#9 Hurricane Chris - A Bay Bay
Hurricane Chris lands his first hit straight in at #9. A Bay Bay is the highest new Singles entry for 18-year-old rapper Chris Dooley Jr. Previous Hurricanes to hit our charts include Bob Dylan's 1976 #25 Hurricane (about boxer Rubin Carter) and English producer / songwriter-turned singer Hurricane Smith's Who Was It? which also made it to #9 in 1972.

#22 Rihanna - Hate That I Love You
A good week for Rihanna who scores her third hit this year with the third track from her third album Good Girl Gone Bad (#24 this week). Hate That I Love You joins Shut Up And Drive (which moves up to #16) and her former #1 Umbrella, still sitting at #19.

#38 Maroon 5 - Wake Up Call
Wake Up Call is the second hit lifted from LA quintet Maroon 5's #2 sophomore release It Won't Be Soon Before Long and it slides in at #38 to be the third of three Singles new entries this week. The band's #1 album Songs About Jane debut yielded five hits. Their latest brings their tally to seven.

The New Albums
#1 50 Cent - Curtis
See story above.

#18 Diana Krall - The Very Best Of
Mrs Elvis Costello racks up her seventh New Zealand chartset with her first compile, The Very Best Of. It's been 10 years since her first chart hit, Love Scenes (#45 in 1997), while the Canadian chantuese last charted last year when From This Moment On peaked at #17. Diana's highest charting release here to date is the 2004 #5 The Girl In The Other Room.

#19 Hairspray Cast - Hairspray OST
Originally made in the ‘80s, the first Hairspray starred a very young Ricki Lake along with Blondie's Debbie Harry and Sonny Bono. A bit similar to Grease, although that started out as a stage show, the most obvious link is John Travolta. Although in this flick, John doesn't play the male lead but rather a female support. The young male lead is that guy from High School Musical and the female lead was discovered in a New York ice cream parlour. The new Hairspray movie was released here last week and its soundtrack lands at #19 first week

#29 KT Tunstall - Drastic Fantastic
Scots singer-songwriter Kate Tunstall's sophomore studio album Drastic Fantastic opens one place lower than her Eye To The Telescope debut back in February 2006. That went on to reach #3 and spawn two Top 40 singles. The follow-up, new at #29 includes Hold On, currently #39 on the RadioScope100.
