Waitakere gets active for Push Play Nation 07!

Waitakere gets active for Push Play Nation 07!

Waitakere is getting behind SPARC’s Push Play Nation Campaign and encouraging people to get active.

“Waitakere is full of opportunities for physical activity. We have heaps of open days happening in our clubs, gyms with special promotional deals, and there is a lot going on in schools and community groups. It’s also a great time for people to use Waitakere’s many parks, walkways and indoor facilities” said Rocky Tahuri, of Sport Waitakere.

“While we’re a fairly active region we can always do more to help people make a start – so for Push Play Nation this year Sport Waitakere is facilitating a Feet Beat challenge for schools to get involved in, a ‘Roly Poly-a-thon’ for under 5’s, as well as many collaborative projects with organisations such as the YMCA and Waitakere City Council. We have a list of these activities on our website: www.sportwaitakere.co.nz. Take a look for ideas for all ages and abilities”.

Push Play Nation is SPARC’s annual campaign aimed at getting more New Zealanders physically active. Push Play Nation runs from 16 September through to Push Play Day on 2 November.

Just like last year five celebrities have joined the campaign with activity ideas that suit all levels of fitness - Maggie Barry is promoting a walking programme; Petra Bagust a ‘Family Fit’ routine; Robbie Magasiva a running routine; Tawera Nikau, his own fitness ‘Game Plan’ and Mike Chunn a ‘Workplace Workout.

All five programmes have been included in a free 12-month Push Play Nation Activity Diary available from Countdown, Rebel Sport and Avanti dealers while stocks last, or you can download a diary from www.sparc.org.nz. The diaries include a green and white wristband to wear during the seven weeks of Push Play Nation. Spot prizes will be awarded to people who are seen wearing their wristbands.

“We’re challenging people to take advantage of the ideas and resources during Push Play Nation and make a commitment to include physical activity into their daily lives. It takes at least 21 days to form a habit and in that time people can really begin to see the benefits and feel great. Push Play Nation is the perfect time to start that habit forming behaviour,” said Rocky.

Check out www.sparc.org.nz or call Rocky Tahuri, Sport Waitakere on 966 3120 for more information about getting active.
