Protein Cookies Power Players

Protein Cookies Power Players

The Protein Bakery have signed up the Hutt Valley Spartans for the 2007/2008 season of American Football (gridiron). The team will now be known as the Protein Cookie Spartans. The new playing strip will be formally launched at the Exchange Hotel in Lower Hutt at 4pm where the Protein Bakery Directory Justine Swartz will present the players with their jerseys.

The Spartans are looking to regain the Ambassadors Cup in what looks to be one of the most competitive seasons yet, with five teams competing in the Lower North Island Competition. The season kicks off with a match against traditional rivals the Linton Central Turbines at 4 pm on Saturday the 10th on November.

The match which is to be held at Riverside Park on Harcourt Werry Drive in Avalon will be the first game that Spartans have played in the Hutt Valley in over a year as the league had moved to a central location for last season.

The Spartans will need a big season from their veterans. In particular Johnny Connor who will be leading the team from Quarterback, Nate Lambert who is considered on of the best defensive players in the country and the running back pairing on Daniel Vena and Ese Amosa.

The Spartans have also added several new players including former professional Jesse Richards who will be joining Michael Wilson in the coaching team and playing at tight end/defensive end.
