Martians To Invade Oamaru On New Years Eve
Clan McGillicuddy will be the Martians in a 're-enactment' of The War of the Worlds in the heritage port area of Oamaru on New Years Eve. Alfs Imperial Army will be defending the British Empire from the tripods' evil invasion.
The McGillicuddies will be using pink slime membranes and silver-ducted stilts to portray the aliens - see www.freelunch.co.nz/acts_spectacle.htm and www.freelunch.co.nz/acts_stilt.htm at the website of the Clan's commercial wing, the Free Lunch Street Theatre Company.
The highly theatrical pacifist battle is the highlight of the McGillicuddies' sixth Extreme Picnic, held every second New Years since 1997/98 somewhere in the South Island. It is the first time that Clan McGillicuddy have officially invaded Oamaru, the NZ capital of Victorian re-enactment, an Alfs Army stronghold and retreat of The Wizard. McGillicuddies will be coming from Hamilton, Wellington, Nelson, Dunedin and Hong Kong, with local Alfs being reinforced from Christchurch, Dunedin and London.
