NZ Winners Announced For ROCK2WGTN.

SIX TOP ‘RIFF’ GUITARISTS WERE SELECTED FROM A HUGE POOL WHO APPLIED TO PLAY SOLO AT THE OPENING OF DAY ONE ON MARCH 22.

Thursday 32 January: Anyone walking past MusicWorks Store in downtown Wellington could easily have been mistaken to think Jimi Hendricks had come back to life or that Van Halen had come to town. The occasion was the final playoff for the six solo guitarist positions to open ROCK2WGTN on Saturday March 22. With the temptation of being heard by Alice Cooper, Lordi and KISS who also appear the same night, 15 of the country’s best had travelled to the capital just for the rare opportunity.

Nearly 200 musicians, all with some professional experience, had submitted tapes and CD’s highlighting their styles to THE ROCK radio network where the very best were carefully selected to make up the final.

The four judges, Paul ‘Axeman’ Martin from the ROCK, Mike Carpinter, lead guitarist for Autozam, Garry Sharpe-Young, Author and the power behind Rockdetector.com and promoter Phil Sprey of Capital C: Concerts faced a difficult task selecting between a very talented and passionate ‘shredders’ who didn’t disappoint.

Selected are: Darren Broughton (New Plymouth), Arosha Jagawardena (Auckland), Hena Gate (Lower Hutt), Kara Gordon (Takapuna), Brian Hatcher (New Plymouth) And Charlie Chainsaw (Invercargill)

All finalists will play their solo duels armed with a seriously modified guitar from Musicworks which was enhanced by the magic of WETA Workshop. They get to keep the instruments after the performance.

ROCK2WGTN ‘s global appeal is attracting global attention and is destined to be the concert of 2008.
