Saatchi’s Provides A New Dimension For Wellington’s Art Scene

In celebration and support of Wellington’s extraordinary local artists Saatchi & Saatchi Wellington have created Five Stories High, The Saatchi Gallery.

The gallery, located on the fifth floor of the advertising agency (corner of Courtenay Place and Taranaki Street) is somewhere for artists to display their creations; be it interactive, audible, two-dimensional, all-dimensional, moving image, high-tech or low-tech.

Five Stories High, The Saatchi Gallery was launched on Monday the 2nd of July 2007 to a group of invited guests including local artists, Wellington City Council members and Saatchi & Saatchi clients. Our grand opening was a collective exhibition by filmmaker Ruth Korver, landscape painter Paul Hanson and pop culture satirist Bruce Mahalski.

Our second exhibition in October included works from multi media artist Rob Appierdo, chalk and ink artist JoElle Gragilla and multi cultural painter Ymre Molnar. Our current exhibition is a celebration of all things female. Including Indian works from travel photographer Karim Sahai, contemporary jewellery artist Annie Collins, painter Alex DiMercurio and photographer Leana Keen. This commences in March.

The gallery will have an opening hour every Wednesday between 2-3pm and members of the public are invited to book for a viewing by phone or email. Artists will also be available to present a floor-talk about their work. The gallery’s forthcoming exhibitions will go through distinct phases with new artists being invited to exhibit or given the chance to propose an exhibition.

Five Stories High does not operate as a conventional gallery. Artworks are not labeled for sale but all artists welcome enquiries about their works and commissions for direct negotiation between the buyer and the artist. Therefore artists incur no commission fees and do not pay to exhibit at the gallery.
