3 Weeks Left For Students To Have Their Words Made Into A Kiwi Smash Song

Talented young poets, songwriters and lyricists have just three weeks to enter their best work into the New Zealand Post National Schools Poetry Awards. The Awards running for the second year will see the best lyrics made into a song and a music video by Kiwi award winning musician, Samuel Flynn Scott from The Phoenix Foundation and Fly My Pretties.

The New Zealand Post National Schools Poetry Awards are open to Year 12 and 13 students. Entry forms are available on www.nzpost.co.nz/poetryawards, along with tips from last year's judges about. Entries close on 3 June 2008.

Musician Samuel Flynn Scott one of three Awards' judges says the concept of liberating your words personally resonated with him and is a reason he wanted to be involved. "As a musician, I feel I sometimes hide my words away, they can get lost in the mix or sometimes swallowed in a reverberation or sound reflection. This initiative is about bringing the words to the forefront and to my mind providing a tasty slice of wordplay that is about what words sound right and, as importantly, what words sound cool."

The awards are a collaboration between New Zealand Post and Victoria University's School of Modern Letters.
