Local Indy TV Up For Seven Awards

Local indy television company Isola Productions was stoked to receive seven nominations in the Qantas television awards announced last night. The finalist list placed Isola for productions across a wide spectrum of television including Drama, Children’s, and General Television, showing the companies competency across various formats.

The small company based in Kingsland, Auckland, received the most nominations for Ride With the Devil, a short drama series based around a new Asian immigrant who falls in with a group of boy racers. Though it was challenged by a late timeslot when it aired on TV2 in New Zealand, the show was hugely popular with its target demographic and received wide acclaim and feedback from fans for its realistic approach to kiwi characters and storylines.

Ride with the Devil was also popular with the judges, who nominated the show up against long-time television award winner Shortland Street and current favourite Outrageous Fortune in a number of categories.

Ride With The Devil’s five nominations are as follows;

Best Drama Programme

Performance by an Actress in General Television
Lynette Forday

• Performance by a Supporting Actress in General Television
o Angela Bloomfield

• Achievement in Editing - Drama/Comedy Programme
o Lisa Hough

Achievement in Camera Work - Drama/Comedy Programme
o Dave Garbett

Actor Erik Thompson has also been nominated for his role in South Pacific Pictures’ ‘We're Here to Help’ in the category; Performance by an Actor in a leading role in Film. Congratulations go to Erik for making an impact in both film and television in the same awards this year.

Isola Productions are also very happy to receive a nomination in;

Best Children's/Youth Programme

The show brought a very worthy cause to the nations screens when ‘Play It Strange’ documented Mike Chunn’s initiative of the same name, which aims to inspire school kids into writing and recording their own music.

Producer Rachel Jean is happy to be in the running with other local TV favourites Shortland Street and Outrageous Fortune for drama awards this year.

“Its fantastic to have our shows Ride With The Devil and Million Dollar Con-Man nominated with some of the industry greats like Shorty and Outrageous,” says Jean. “It shows the increasing range and variety of local drama New Zealand audiences can look forward to seeing in the future.”
