Now Screening, Radio With Pictures

Newstalk ZB’s growing band of internet listeners will now be able to see two of their top-rating hosts as well as listening to them live on the station’s website.

The premier networked station has launched pioneering webcam broadcasts of The Paul Holmes Breakfast and Larry Williams Drive Show.

“This is a logical development given the burgeoning number of listeners who now tune in to Newstalk ZB on their computers through the station’s website,” said Bill Francis, general manager of talk programming on The Radio Network.

“This is the first such venture for a major radio station in New Zealand and gives us a chance to share some of the ‘secrets’ and innermost workings of radio. Many people imagine the look on a radio host’s face when a comment is made – now they will be able to actually see that expression, as well as the other activities that go towards bringing the voices to air.

“It will be pretty much warts and all radio – showing the story like the way it is.”

Computer listeners will also be able to watch Newstalk ZB news readers Bernadine Oliver-Kerby, Kate Hawkesby, Barry Holland and Niva Retimanu presenting their bulletins live at the top of the hour between 6am and 6pm.

“Using the webcam will bring a whole new dimension to radio broadcasting and we are very pleased to be the first to bring it to the New Zealand public,” said Bill Francis.

Being able to watch Newstalk ZB online has been made possible by Microsoft Lifecam.
