14 October 2008 - Top trampoline and tumbling athletes from around the world are taking over Rotorua this week as New Zealand hosts the Indo Pacific Trampoline and Tumbling Championships for the first time.
The Championships are taking place from 15-19 October at Rotorua’s Energy Events Centre and more than 300 athletes from seven countries will be trying to bounce and tumble each other out to win gold, silver and bronze medals.
The Championships are one of the top events on the world gymnastics calendar and a record number of New Zealand athletes are competing in this year’s event.
Athletes will put their skills to the test in four different events - synchronised trampoline, double mini-trampoline, individual trampoline and tumbling.
The sport of Trampoline in New Zealand comes under the umbrella of GymSports NZ. GymSports is one of the three foundation sports recognised by SPARC. The event is being sponsored by Rotorua District Council, the Bay Trust, Rotorua Energy Trust and Sport & Recreation New Zealand (SPARC).
