Its not easy bein' green
Who said that ? Kermit of course! The question then
arises...what has that got to do with art?
Well, for the members of The Arts Forum Inc it's about colours, for that is the title of the 2009 Annual Members' Exhibition scheduled for March 2009. "Colours" said David Poole, the group's Chairperson "is about expanding members knowledge and use of colour and increasing awareness of how colour adds meaning and reflects wellbeing in the community"
This exhibition will be the third annual exhibition conducted at Estuary Arts Centre, the facility developed by The Arts Forum Inc ( TAFI) and opened in March 2007 as a centre of excellence supporting developing and established artists from throughout Rodney. This centre is now administered by Estuary Arts Charitable Trust.
The The Arts Forum Inc 's mission is to "enrich individual and community life in Rodney by involving people of all ages in todays visual arts, through curated exhibitions, the promotion of our local artists and through art education" The exhibition opens on the 5th March and continues to the 29th March with opening night on the evening of the 5th at 6pm.
Jennifer Atkinson, a long standing member, is the sponsor of the first prize of $1000 cash and when asked about this generous contribution she said " Artistically I am such a severe self critic that I become paralysed and produce nothing. Money can ease some struggles and if it can help loosen the deadly grip of self doubt on even one other artist then I have found a way to make a difference in our community"
David Poole said "The challenge then is for other people to find a way that they too can make a difference. And that is the challenge The Arts Forum Inc is putting to its members and the community by inviting people to join and exhibit! "
Other prizes are $500 for second and vouchers for third.
Dean Buchanon is going to be one of the judges and it is inspiring to listen to his relationship with his work, best expressed in this quote " If you stopped me from painting I would probably die. It's become that important to me. I want to fill the world with colourful images before I die. I want to leave something. I want to leave a legacy"
